Wow, It’s Been Awhile…

May 13, 2013 | Eric

I feel like I’ve been off the grid, except for a facebook post or two. It’s strange how work and school can pick up, and all of a sudden its the middle of May.

A lot has happened since my last post! I was able to go to a few shows, including Ben Folds Five, Andrew McMahon, Tegan and Sara, and the first Electric Lime Records show produced by Mark Huls.

Andrew McMahon (2)

The Andrew McMahon concert was probably the best concert experience I have ever had! The show was at The House of Blues in Downtown San Diego, which is a pretty small venue. Both the openers, Erland and Barcelona, were very good and pretty distinctly different styles. As always, Andrew was awesome and played all the songs I wanted to sing along with! His music is just full of energy and always puts me in a socal state of mind. As if the show itself wasn’t good enough, both Erland and Barcelona were hanging out and the merch table, so Mary and I went and talked to them a little, buying both of their records. As we were about to leave, Andrew McMahon walked out to say hi to some friends, so I jumped at the chance and intercepted him! We talked a little bit about his past shows, and this tour, and he took a picture with Mary and me! It was an amazing experience to meet and have a talk with a musician I really idolize and who has been an inspiration behind a lot of my music. He was really nice and down to earth, and I can’t wait until he’s back in town for another show!

Mark’s show was a big success! He had 5 singer-songwriters play, including Geoff Quiseng, Nathan Darmody, and Belle from Electric Lime. A pretty huge crowd showed up and packed into Geoff Quiseng’s hair salon, The Hair Zone in Poway. I partook in the gourmet cupcakes and really enjoyed the music!

Even though I’ve been busy, I’ve been writing new songs and perfecting some of the ones I’ve written in the past year so I can record them for my album which I plan to release this summer, “The Wind In My Sails.” I know its been a while since I released the single, “No Destination In Mind (West Coast Version),” but I assure you, it will be worth the wait! I can’t wait to finish recording these songs and get them out to you.

Well, that’s what I’ve been up to and whats coming up in the next few months! You may not hear from me again until after my final exam in June, but until then there’s plenty to check out in the world of music, including new albums from Andrew McMahon and The Neighbourhood, as well as some awesome bands/artists on tour this summer, including John Mayer and City and Colour, both of which I’ve got tickets to! Hopefully you can get out there and enjoy some music!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Eric
