2014: The Return of The Soloists (just one song though!)

January 7, 2015 | Eric

It’s that time of year again to reflect back on everything that happened in the past year. From my blog, it might seem that not much happened. I wasn’t able to finish “Long Walks in Ann Arbor” like I wanted to. I surely made up for my lack of releases in attending concerts the past year. Let’s take a look at the list!

Concerts
Nickel Creek
Counting Crows
Portugal, The Man./Grouplove
Jason Mraz with Raining Jane
Paul McCartney
Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness/Hunter Hunted
Postmodern Jukebox

There were some amazing shows this year. Paul McCartney at Petco Park was an unforgettable show! Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness was also an amazing show and followed up my favorite new album of the year.

“No Forecast of Rain” Released!
Although the song was recorded in October of 2013, it took a long time to get this song ready for release. The Soloists finally released No Forecast of Rain on November 4th of 2014 and we couldn’t be happier with the way the song came out! It’s based on Searching for a Pulse by Nazifa Islam, which I wrote about previously. Mary once again lent her artistry skills to the cover, which pulls inspiration from artwork of the original printing of the poetry collection.

Singing Some Christmas Carols
Near the end of the year, Mary and I joined a small caroling group to sing some carols at our office. A video of the performance has surfaced, but its a little hard to hear everyone’s voices. It’s possible that this is my only “live performance” of the year, so I had to add it to the review.

Looking Ahead
2015 is sure to be a year of change for me. It’s hard to say right now, but things may align to give me more time to work on music so I could finally catch up on my long list of things to do! Also, if things work out, more music could be coming from The Soloists this year! That would certainly be exciting for me, since I’ve been wanting to get more stuff rolling with The Soloists for a while, but its been hard with a lack of time and living so far from Patrick. I don’t want to give any promises, but I think 2015 will be an exciting year for music!

Happy 2015!
Eric
